The CoSS provides new level of accuracy and granularity to detect and identify following items:

Applications and protocols (APPs):

several hundreds of APPs are accessible, on top of traditional protocols with fixed ports and include such categories as

APPs may also be defined directly in the product by:

Tickets extraction for CDR, IPDR or custom format for real time usage tracking to feed 3rd party database and correlation engines,

Service metering and quota management
Quota control and metering towards charging/billing systems for PCC, PCRF and PCEF.

Traffic selection copy
Smart span for content or APPs extraction with traffic copy on selective criteria (IP addresses, Ports, countries, AS…).

Policy Enforcement for enhanced control

The CoSS delivers the full functionalities to enforce operator’s policies to control and steer their bandwidth traffic and implement new services. This consists in following features:

APPs policy enforcement:

• APPs throttling or prioritization with QoS marking (DSCP, MPLS or VLAN tags) and APPs shaping (bandwidth limits enforcement per group of APPs)
• APPs admission control with session limitation per APP (i.e video admission control)
• APPs blocking (black list enforcement)
• APPs rerouting to VAS servers

Content policy enforcement:

• Content reference blocking (black list enforcement)
• Content (URLs) rerouting to VAS servers

User policy enforcement:

• Profile enforcement
• IP based bandwidth limitation, concurrent sessions’ limitation per IP
• User based bandwidth limitation, concurrent sessions’ limitation per IP
• Group of APPs policy enforcement per user

Performances & scalability

The flexible license packages enable system growth along with the traffic growth and ensure investment protection. Deployment on standard servers deliver superior price performance ratio, and give room for performance growth while avoiding costly proprietary hardware architecture. Server configurations have been thoroughly tested and validated by Vedicis team for optimized performance and for taking maximum advantage of the Intel servers’ architecture and performance.
