Frost & Sullivan Confers New Product Innovation Award on Vedicis for its Open Traffic Management Software Platform. Innovative broadband traffic management solution supports comprehensive traffic analysis and control.
September 13th, 2012 | London, UK:
Based on its recent analysis of the broadband traffic management market, Frost & Sullivan recognizes Vedicis with the 2012 Europe Frost & Sullivan Award for New Product Innovation. Vedicis is commended for its Open Traffic Management Software Platform, a holistic broadband traffic management solution. The platform leverages Deep Packet Intelligence (DPI) and policy enforcement technology to provide granular content detection, analysis and real-time bandwidth control. “The innovativeness of this solution lies in the level of granularity it offers,” notes Frost & Sullivan Research Analyst Charanya Balasubramanian. “The solution is equipped to present information on various facets for each subscriber and perform granular analysis beyond detection of protocols and packets and deliver unique capabilities to measure and steer real-time bandwidth per user for million simultaneous users.” While conventional traffic management vendors utilize network processors to switch traffic at high speeds, the software-based solution from Vedicis utilizes stand-alone servers and processing units to manage complex policies with rich content and controls bandwidth in real-time. “This software-based engine can identify varied types of content including URL, media, group of IPs, subnets, users and applications,” adds Balasubramanian. “Adding visibility to components monitored in the network traffic, the engine also provides flexible selection criteria to forward, copy, block or filter content based on the load in the network in real-time.” The Open Traffic Management platform offers precise metering options for varied traffic types for each subscriber. Vedicis also monitors and meters traffic for background activities such as updates for smartphone applications for each subscriber. In addition, Vedicis implements tiered services. Data usage-based billing, creation and enforcement of customized data packages, provision of bandwidth access and control, charging for specific application, volume quota and bandwidth restrictions at peak time are some of the features offered as a part of the tiered services. “Operators can utilize commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware to incorporate Vedicis Traffic Management Solution into their systems,” remarks Balasubramanian. “This software-based approach offers cost benefits to the user in terms of reduced capital and operational expenditure as costs associated with hardware procurement and maintenance are significantly reduced.” The platform empowers operators to develop new services to address changing subscriber needs. Furthermore, operators have the freedom to explore new business models to maximise revenues by increasing the average revenue per user (ARPU). This innovative solution enables operators build a strong business case in a highly competitive environment where innovation and quality of service (QoS) are keys to competitive success. VEDICIS JOINS NETWORK INTELLIGENCE ALLIANCE TO DRIVE INNOVATION AND LEADERSHIP FOR NEXT-GENERATION NETWORK SOLUTIONS Participation in new industry organization will create opportunities to collaborate with other technology providers supporting the Network Economy and better serve customers with solutions based on Network Intelligence technology.
5th September 2011:
Vedicis, a leading provider of price/performance DPI-PCEF solutions for carriers today announced that it has become a member of the Network Intelligence Alliance (NI Alliance), an industry organization created for collaboration among the Network Economy’s technology providers. Participation in the NI Alliance will help Vedicis to build and market innovative solutions for customers seeking to improve policy control and charging enforcement features. In today’s Network Economy—a world that now depends and runs on networks—accurate visibility and precise tracking of data crossing networks have become crucial to the availability, performance and security of applications and services. The growing complexity of IP transactions, the explosion of mobile applications, and the mainstream adoption of cloud computing surpass the capabilities of conventional tools to improve how networks operate, expand services and police illicit or criminal activity. Just like Business Intelligence solutions emerged to unlock information hidden in the enterprise, Network Intelligence technology is an emerging category of technology to reveal the critical details of the data locked inside network traffic and transactions. The NI Alliance serves two purposes: first, as a forum for collaboration among technology providers whose solutions secure data in transit, ensure efficient data delivery, monetize data transactions or track real-time information. Through the NI Alliance, members can better serve their customers. The NI Alliance also seeks to educate the market and the public on the role and value of Network Intelligence in protecting sensitive information; delivering value-added services, applications and information; and ensuring better performance of network-dependent solutions. Vedicis includes Network Intelligence within its Policy and Charging Enforcement Solution to deliver full visibility on broadband traffic. Vedicis Linux platform empowers Mobile and Fixed Carriers to better manage network congestion, move to usage-based billing models, and create new tiered services through smart routing. ―The NI Alliance is the right ecosystem to foster state of the art technology such as ours in a rapidly-changing market,‖ said Théodore Martin Martin, Vedicis CEO. ―Our product, the Vedicis Content Smart Switch, is a DPI-PCEF software platform used to control multi-1GE or multi-10GE traffic with high switching performance and density on Intel Standard Servers. We deliver cost effectiveness and short ROI with scalability, flexibility and fast integration for broadband control and monetization. This requires deep Network Intelligence to meet carriers’ demands. ―Vedicis is a valuable addition to the NI Alliance and we welcome their participation,‖ said Erik Larsson, Chairman of the NI Alliance. ―By joining the NI Alliance, Vedicis increases its commitment to customers with greater capabilities to identify, develop and support innovative, more comprehensive solutions based on Network Intelligence.‖ Establishment of the NI Alliance was initiated by Qosmos, whose Network Intelligence technology components provide the crucial first step in understanding what’s passing through networks. Qosmos’ hardware and software components extract and interpret real-time traffic—translating a data stream’s 1s and 0s into their respective communications protocols, metadata and content for use by third-party applications. Through the NI Alliance, Qosmos expands its collaborative approach to help vendors design and deliver advanced solutions with embedded Network Intelligence technology in less time and at lower cost. The NI Alliance provides a channel for dialogue and partnerships that Alliance Members otherwise may not have considered or pursued when addressing the needs of joint customers. Visibility within the vendor community through the NI Alliance affords companies opportunities to market more comprehensive solutions with greater ROI and faster time to value for customers.

First win in APAC for policy control and tethering monetization.
Paris, 1st June 2011:
Vedicis announces that a major APAC mobile operator has selected Vedicis Policy Control & Enforcement Solution for tethering monetization and congestion relief. Mobile users demonstrate a very fast adoption of internet broadband, and new smartphone usage is extremely popular. Among them, “mobile hot spot usage” aka “tethering” when smartphone is used as a modem is now a growing concern for mobile carriers. Issues are two-fold: - Tethering usage heavily contributes to congest the network with a high degradation of Quality of Experience for all subscribers at peak times. With tethering, many devices (PCs/Tablets) and many users may access to mobile network through a single smartphone which may consume more than 10 times the bandwidth of any other smartphone, especially with PC applications (like peer-to-peer, ftp, OTT videos) that are not optimized for mobile device communication. - From a business standpoint, mobile operators offer specific tethering service packages. However they are rarely subscribed as operators control are easily bypassed. This represents an important revenue leakage, while bandwidth and services are intensively used. Vedicis Policy Control & Enforcement Solution provides user bandwidth monitoring, clear identification of tethering usage to be compared on the fly with their subscription packages, and inline actions for control (either bandwidth limitation for users without relevant data packages or alerts sent to SMS systems to propose directly a package upgrade). “Our solution, with precise usage detection at high speed that avoid false positive, combined with a short ROI, gives a unique advantage to mobile operators to monetize tethering and limit congestion in the network.” comments Theodore Martin Martin, Vedicis CEO.
